WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
If the thought of applying an acid to your skin sounds scary, there’s no need to worry. You ’d be surprised to discover that these “acids” are derived from nature. We use a variety of chemical acid peels at our Newmarket medical spa to help restore your skin to its most lustrous self.
Types of Chemical Peels
Lactic Acid is a mild acid peel that is derived from milk. It nourishes and gently exfoliates the skin, with very little downtime after your treatment. In fact, Cleopatra used milk baths to soften and beautify her skin. The active ingredient? Lactic acid! Glycolic Acid comes from fruit and is a powerful skin brightener and exfoliator of surface devitalized old skin cells.
Our Deluxe Dermaplaning Peel combines the benefits of our chemical lactic or mild glycolic acid peel with our gentle mechanical dermaplaning technique of exfoliation. Dermaplaning is a safe, comfortable technique of exfoliation that is achieved with a specialized instrument prior to the application of your peel. This enhances the removal of dead skin cells and vellous hair allowing for deeper penetration of our peel and our anti-oxidant formulated mask. Your skin tone will become more even and smooth. Moisturizers and make-up will go on more easily and your skin will be left feeling softer than you can imagine.
Salicylic Acid is a naturally occurring acid derived from willow bark. It is excellent at facilitating exfoliation but also has important anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects on the skin. It is highly effective for the treatment of oily, acne prone skin.
Why do they work so well?
Nature’s acids break down the bonds found on the outer layer of your skin. This promotes the exfoliation of dead skin cells and debris, which in turn helps to draw out your skin impurities. Skin cell turnover and collagen remodeling is enhanced in this way – the end result is healthier, more luminescent skin. The fact is, chemical peels, not to be mistaken with spa facials, are incredibly beneficial for our skin health. The way we see it, healthy skin is beautiful skin.
