There are plenty of people out there who have an attitude of “go big or go home” when it comes to cosmetic procedures. It is certainly true that a face lift can have a dramatic effect on your appearance, radically reducing the effects of aging. But such an invasive and extensive treatment isn’t for everyone. Those who would prefer less invasive options for adding some youth back to their face often feel left out. It’s for this reason we think that the less-invasive options need to get the spotlight. Here we’ll give some love to Broadband Light (BBL) and explain how it differs and matches up to the facelift. If you’re considered BBL in Toronto or Newmarket, we’ll lay out the basics here.
What is BBL?
There’s a lot of confusion over what exactly BBL is. You’ll often see people confusing BBL for laser treatments, interpreting the acronym as “Broadband Laser.” However, the treatment technically is using non-laser wavelengths of light – it’s Broadband Light Treatment.
But what does that exactly mean? Essentially, particular wavelengths of light are directed at and into your skin. Your skin will absorb this broad range of light waves, which has the effect of promoting collagen growth and destroying pigmented (darker cells). The collagen product helps provide a youthful, firmer sheen to your skin, while targeting the pigmented cells can help reduce a wide range of blemishes from sun damage or skin conditions.
BBL vs facelift
What’s great about BBL is how much more accessible it is compared to many other surgical options. The entire process can be finished in 30 minutes. It’s also a process with little in the way of discomfort. There’s no incisions or anesthetics needed.. Your cosmetic specialist will help you get what you need to stay comfortable – generally this involves a cooling gel, and some sort of protection for your eyes. After BBL treatment you’re fine to go back to work or home as you desire. BBL treatment is especially suitable for the fall and winter months when UV light is low – it’s ideal to do over a holiday.
While both BBL and a facelift can help restore a fuller, more “youthful” appearance to a face, BBL goes further by targeting discoloration and blemishes. If you have previous sun damage, or scarring from skin conditions, BBL could be the perfect procedure for you. BL can also be done repeatedly to maximize results, though you’ll want to space these sessions out over a few months.
