WHAT ARE AGING SPOTS?
It’s inevitable that we develop some discolouration and/or aging spots over time. These areas of hyperpigmentation have less to do with our chronologic age however than our cumulative sun / UV exposure throughout the years. These are known as sunspots (solar lentiginous). A recent Proctor and Gamble Beauty study concluded that age spots do in fact age us – more so than fine lines or wrinkles. This study concluded that aging spots can make a woman look as much as 20 years older than her chronological age. Though we may not like the way it makes us look, fortunately, they don’t place us at increased risk for skin cancer – and they are treatable! Recent technological innovations have now made it possible to improve (if not reverse) much of our hyper-pigmentation or aging spots.
